Youth Art Exhibition 2019

The Youth Art Exhibition was conceived when Phillips’ Mill decided to build on the success of its well respected adult Art Exhibition, which began in 1929. As the adult show seeks participation from artist living within a 25 mile radius of the Mill, the YAE solicits participation from the art departments of high schools located within a 25 mile radius of the Mill. It is the art department at each school that selects the student work. Works are juried by a juror selected by the Mill and cash prizes awarded. The art teachers have been enthusiastic supporters as well as integral to putting on the show. The YAE planning committee thanks all of them for their efforts. The exhibition could not continue without these dedicated teachers.

From its start in 2014, the show has grown in size each year, both in the number of artists and works displayed as well as the number of participating high schools. The amount of prize money awarded has also grown thanks to the generosity of our sponsors. The exhibition is free for the schools and the artists, no commission on sales is charged and there is no admission fee for visitors. It builds on the unique contribution of Phillips’ Mill to art in the community. 

The Youth Art Exhibition runs 4 weekends from mid-January to mid- February. Exhibited pieces include sculpture, fine art and photography.

In her 35 years as a museum professional, Lisa Tremper Hanover has transformed
museums physically, programmatically, and operationally. Her broader role as a senior
leader in the cultural field has had a positive impact on art and history museums,
humanities organizations, and other non-profit entities.
Hanover was named Director & CEO of the James A. Michener Art Museum (2012-
2017) after a successful tenure as Director of the Philip and Muriel Berman Museum of
Art at Ursinus College (1987-2012). She began her career with the Armand Hammer
Foundation, traveling his art collections to national and international destinations.
As leader of the Michener Art Museum program, Hanover has overseen the
transformation of the physical facility with new façade landscaping, revitalization of
permanent collection galleries, refreshed curatorial efforts, evolution of professional
staff, mounted a celebration of the Museum’s 25th Anniversary of operation, and
negotiated for the highly successful exhibition From Philadelphia to Monaco: Grace Kelly –
Beyond the Icon presented in 2013-2014 to over 100,000 visitors. A leader in the museum
field, Hanover has conducted numerous Museum Assessment Program reviews and
served on AAM Accreditation teams. She retired from this position in January 2018 and
currently serves the cultural field as a consultant.,
In addition to presenting at numerous regional and national conferences, Hanover is an
enthusiastic and knowledgeable public speaker, with presentations to over 300 regional
and national organizations. She has served as President of the Association of Academic
Museums & Galleries (AAMG), President of the Pennsylvania Federation of Museums
& Historical Organizations and juried over 100 art exhibitions and public art
commissions. She has served on the Board of Directors of the Wayne Art Center, The
Baum School of Art, The Perkiomen Valley Chamber of Commerce, The Central Bucks
Chamber of Commerce, the Center for Art in Wood of Philadelphia and was recently
named to the Advisory Board of Hortulus Gardens, located in Bucks County.
