Art Show 2017 Promotional Image
A group of Phillips’ Mill Art Committee members selected “Phillips’ Mill” by Tom Gass as this year’s image of the Mill that will appear on posters, postcards and other publicity outlets for the 88th Exhibition, such as the poster shown below. Congratulations to Tom!!
Juror Biographies
The 88th Annual Phillips’ Mill Art Exhibition Committee selected the art experts who served as jurors for this year’s show.
Twenty-one works of art were selected to receive awards totaling $10,900. The Phillips’ Mill Art Exhibition is the first and most continuous art event exhibiting the works of Delaware Valley artists.
The jurors this year were:
Painting and Graphics
Bill Scott is an abstract painter and printmaker who studied painting at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) and later worked informally with abstract painter Joan Mitchell at her home in Vetheuil, France. Since 1999, he has made intaglio prints with the C.R. Ettinger Studio.
A native of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Christine Lafuente received an A.B. in English from Bryn Mawr College in 1991. She moved to Philadelphia to earn a degree in painting and printmaking from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. She earned a master’s in fine arts at the Brooklyn College and has had numerous solo exhibitions.
Tim Gaydos has been a master pastelist of the Pastel Society of America since 1987. Gaydos was born and raised in New York City, attended University of California at Berkeley as well as the Academia di Belli Arti di Brera in Milan, Italy.
Sculpture
Born in England, Kate Brockman moved to the United States in 1979. She took her first course in figure sculpture while an undergraduate at West Chester University. Brockman began to study sculpture in earnest at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts where she now teaches courses in Figure Modeling and Foundry.
John Mathews earned his B.S in Fine Arts from Skidmore College and went on to earn his Master of Fine Arts from the University of Pennsylvania. Mathews began his teaching career at the University of the Arts. He began teaching at Bucks County Community College in 1990 and since 2004 has been performing the responsibilities as the dean for the arts at BCCC.
Artist Registration/Entry forms for the 88th Annual Juried Art Exhibition are available here. Entries will be accepted at Phillips’ Mill on Sept. 8 and 9.
