When the 30th Annual Phillips’ Mill Photography Exhibition opens on April 2, 2023, it will be a collection of artwork carefully curated by internationally acclaimed fine art photographer Jill Enfield. A leading authority on Alternative Photographic Processes, Jill is also an educator and the author of three books on the subject.
Every year the Phillips’ Mill Art Show Committee selects a “signature image” of the Mill to be used on posters, ads, postcards, social media and the website for the upcoming show.This is a dynamic opportunity for artists to build their visibility among collectors. In the past, many of our signature images have sold.
Students and parents packed the house downstairs at Phillips’ Mill on February 5, 2023, to hear Andrea Thompson, Arts Education Manager of the Michener Art Museum, discuss Art as a Life and Career Path. Her talk emphasized the variety and abundance of career paths for artists.
For the first time in three years, the Phillips’ Mill Youth Art Exhibition, showcasing the artwork of area high school students, is on display at the Mill.
This year, the Mill will mark three decades of presenting what has become an internationally recognized show.
Ellen Pietsch remembers going to see her older sister’s artwork on display at the Phillips’ Mill Youth Art Exhibition and thinking, “Wow, this artwork is so out of the box, things I haven’t seen before. Paper cutouts in a shadow box, a bunch of shadows reflected off the light. How do people get these ideas?”

Phillips’ Mill has announced an exciting playwriting competition for students, grade 6 to 12, with a “playful” name and a sincere intent.
Each year, the Phillips’ Mill Community Association’s Board of Directors hosts a party in appreciation of the Lathrop Circle’s additional support of the many art, drama, photography, educational and social programs that help make Phillips’ Mill such a vital part of the larger community.
Every year, the Mill presents and funds artist awards for its Juried Art Show. These include Patrons' awards for painting, drawing, pastel or printmaking and sculpture, among others. Over the years, a number of generous individuals and organizations have established an artist award as a meaningful way to support the Mill and become a part of its history.

On Midsummer’s Night (June 24) the Mill lawn was the setting for a merry rendition of A Midsummer Night's Dream. Mill members and their guests dined amid a sparkling, magic forest where lively actors performed a delightfully bowdlerized version of Shakespeare’s popular comedy.
On a beautiful Sunday afternoon at the end of June, 30 art lovers and artists converged at the Mill to attend our first Art Focus event, For the Love of Watercolor
With the ghost light finally turned off after three years, actors filled the stage with great acting, song, live music and dancing. Comedic plays of eight local playwrights were the bones of the show.
